Gagan...Bad vibes go through me when I see so much grease and still a failed bearing...just shouldn't happen.....

If you do clean it up, you would be looking for marks on the ball rollers or the raceway( ie: the shiny surface where the bearings roll) ...and hopefully no real broken pieces in there.

Thanks for posting these pics of it..

2005 b200 cdi cvt

I won't know the exact date until I get it back but think it's June 2005. Came from Northern Ireland
I know its fully loaded front parking sensors with full leather heated seats, alloys fogs the lot, well i think i will mention the air con to them just in case there is an issue there in the air con engine side then if it shouldn't be on. it does turn off when turned off though..

I don't know about the operations in the 2005 B Class because there is no listing of such a car here,...but with my early 2006 B (made in the fall of 2005) ,...the A/C does not have to be turned off at start-up as it is not on,...unless I put it on..

What is the "build date" of your B..??..?? This info should be on a tag somewhere on your car.

On Canadian B's,..the build tag is at the bottom of the driver side B pillar. Your car will probably be located somewhere else on the B.

Shaft Video

Here is a very small video of what the shaft was not suppose to do. The bearing have little grooves in them that allow for movement to occur but when the car is accellerating, the bearing are supposed to lock the shaft and together propel the car forward. Check out the video......

It looks like the inner part went. IIRC the roundish part with the balls (a type of bearing race) is splined to the shaft and held on with some snap rings or similar. It should turn with the shaft. I'd throw it in my parts washer and take it apart just to have a closer look. PM me and we'll investigate for future reference for others. I'm busy these days (kids and stuff) but would make some time for this lol.

Maybe a moderator can split this thread into it's own "CV joint and/or driveaxle failure"? Stefan? :D

Hi Str455n , Steve. In regards to your aircon turning on...In the earlier models of the B class, the aircon was designed to default to turn on when the blower was turned on. That being said, if the blower motor is turned off (or set to 0) the aircon compressor should not turn on. The A/C off button will turn the compressor off (and light up A/C off button) if you want to disable A/C when the blower is on. The car should memorize this setting until you press the button again, or disconnect the battery.

In later model B's, MB reversed the operation of this button to make more sense to their customers. When A/C button is lit up, A/C is on.

Moderator please separate out this from the main thread regarding CV joints & drive axles.

Not correct ....My 2006 A/C does not turn on unless I put the defrosting on or manually(press the button) put the A/C on,..and naturally with the fan in operation here.

I have the basic standard 2006 A/C and not the optional Auto A/C. My A/C light is always on when the A/C is off. and as he said,..this operation was reversed in later models of our B.

It could be that my B's A/C still will not come on when the vent is turned to defrost.

I might still have to turn the A/C manually on in all cases with our B.

The A/C does come on automatically in some of our other cars when placed in the "defrost" position,...just not sure about our B.

Ebay driveshaft

Hi everyone,

I had changed the driver side of my driveshaft at a cost of 1600. The left side is costing me 1400 and I just cant afford it. I found this driveshaft on ebay. I wouldl like to confirm if anyone can check the link below and let me know if it fits. The cars steering wheel is on the right side where ours is on the left side. Does this matter or not. In the links description, it states it fits.

One idea would be to ask the parts guy at a local dealer for the part #

....and then get the tel # of a UK dealer and see if they will also confirm if the left hand side part # is the same part # for RH or LH drive........

....I'm guessing that it is..

Just changed the left hand driveshaft. Pretty easy to do especially if you have a impact gun.

1. Remove the wheel and brakes.
2. Please hand the brakes using an old coat hanger so there is no strain on the brake line.
3. Remove the three bolts from the lower control arm.
4. Open the centre locking bolt. I couldnt open it. Got a impact gun and it opened in two seconds. Do not reuse the centre bolt. Make sure to get a new one.
5. Pull out the axle. Insert the new one.
6. Reassemble in reverse order and you are done.
7. Get a wheel alignment done.

Had to get a new one from dealer. I think soon aftermarket ones will be available. On my left hand one, the boot was worn out. I should probably have bought a boot kit and seen if that fix my problem(clicking sound when wheel turned all the way) but I think I was too late.

Had to replace it.
