I just received my SLK antenna that I bought from a German company off of eBay. I live in Miami and I can't pick up any radio stations. Not FM or AM, and the signal from my key to unlock/lock only works from about 10 feet away. So just to let everyone know before they go out and buy it. The one thing I will admit, is that it does look better then the original long antenna. If anyone knows of any other place that I would be able to get something similar that actually works, please let me know. Take care everyone.

MIne Works Great -- Now that I screwed it in tightly...

My remote works from a 2nd floor above the parked car and both AM and FM are fine.

Initally, I had a problem similar to that which you describe, but I made sure that the tiny metal piece supplied with the antenna was in place and then tightened the antenna very tightly. That solved the problem -- make sure that it is screwed in very tightly. Suggest taking a piece of rubber (like you might use to grip a jar lid) to grip the antenna so that you can make it tight. That should solve the problem.

Hi, I bought this antenna from ebay and when I placed it, it honely works 10% in relation with the long one... for any reason that I am unaware, it started to work better, and now it works to ones 50% or 60%, its possible to hear radio and the doors open about 6m from the antenna...

buy it...

compra...

oh soso funny. guys... I just got the SLK55 and the first thing i hated was that long antenna. If you guys are looking for a good working antenna and looks great than goto Mercedes Benz and order an Antenna from the SL and it will fit perfect, just screw it on and go. i got mine on it cost me $35usd. It made the car look 100times better to me. Also i think the ones on ebay are ugly anyways. I will post pics of my 55 this week. [:D]

Many people have tried that and note that the range of the key as well as radio is significantly reduced.

I tried this at the dealer and could not get the fob to work more than a few feet from the car.

What metal piece? I just received the little antenna in a bag from Germany and thats it. I will give it another try and put it as tight as possible. I really hope that works. I'll post some pics later this week, after I have a chance to clean it. Here are the only two I have taken so far. Thanks for the help everyone. Take care.

Perhaps the ideal antenna would be somewhere between the standard one and the stubby one in length. I'm considering buying another standard antenna and cutting a few inches off of it, then seeing how well it works. If it continues to work O.K. then I'll cut it down some more until I get to a length that's just adequate. I'm sure I'll have to finish off the end somehow but it will be an interesting experiment. Since the weather isn't too good in Chicago this time of year, I may have to wait a little while to try the experiment. ANY COMMENTS ?

Diamond silver is the US equivalent of Tellurite. The code is 762 in both cases and of course its the same colour. I would love to see a pic from one of you guys with a grey or beige interior with the roof down...

When I first saw the R171 one of the things that struck me was the aerial.
Why?
The R170 had the aerial in the bumper I think, the SL has an elegant stumpy aerial, we have a long black aerial.
Why not either have a concealed aerial, an elegant aerial or an electric aerial that pops up. In the current set up it seems to me no one has paid much attention to it, and it stands out because everything else is thought through. The aerials we have are nothing special, they are on lots of cheap cars. It just seems like an oversight by MB.
