Cracked the upper oil pan?

The dealer price for that part is in the clouds, so your best bet would be to replace it with one sourced from a wrecker.

Another alternative would be to have someone weld the cast aluminum. This can be done, and the pan doesn't necessarily have to come off, depending on where the crack is.

The oil would have to be drained though, obviously.

+1 on getting the pan from a wrecking yard. I just happen to be planning an excursion to the JY later this week, so I can likely get one for you....

What model car/engine, and where are you located? Let me know...

One more idea:

If the crack is small enough, or something like the upper oil pan ever gets a small hole punched in it, you can try drilling the spot out with a suitable drill and then tapping for an NPT pipe thread (keeping in mind that a 3/8" NPT is about 0.635" actual major diameter, check the internet or PM back for other specific outside diameters) and then plug the hole with a standard pipe plug.

This would only work of course where the metal thickness allows suitable thread depths, but it's an option if you're ever faced with a crack/hole that requires cheap fixing.
I had the same problem, I used some epoxy bondo and patched it up. It has held for over two years now, no leaks. It was a pretty large crack and it worked great. Bondo Marine Epoxy Stick Good luck!
