Hello,

Last week I bought a 2014 E-class (my first MB) with 21k miles that is a CPO.
I planned to buy warranty for it. Dealer ended up convincing me to buy a 4Yr/48k miles warranty is from Zurich Insurance not Mercedes Benz.

What is the main differences between Extended CPO warranty and User warranty?

I would like to know people's thoughts and experiences with warranty uses and coverage etc.

Thanks in advance!

If an extended warranty policy is such a good deal for the consumer, why do the dealers' salespersons push so hard to sell them? Altruism, I think not. Many more purchasers should work out their own risk/benefit analysis and consider self insurance.

You would need to get a copy of each policy coverage and compare them.

The extended CPO warranty covers less than the original mfg warranty, but I dont know exactly what the differences are.

CPO extended can be purchased for up to 3 additional years with unlimited mileage.

As indicated, every Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is covered by the standard Limited Warranty which now runs for 1 year with unlimited miles, starting when your vehicle's original 4-year/50,000-mile (whichever comes first) New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.

The Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned Extended Limited Warranty program offers additional coverage for either 1 or 2 years. As I understand it, now also with unlimited miles.

There's nothing that I've seen that indicates that either the CPO 1 year offered by M-B with the purchase, or the additional "extended" 1-2 year warranty available for purchase, is as complete as the original warranty. For that reason, it would be advisable to obtain a copy of both the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned Limited 1 year Warranty and the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned Extended Limited Warranty.

Any warranty offered by another company like Zurich would also bear checking for cost, comparison of coverage, etc.

As an alternative to additional warranties beyond the 1 year that M-B offers, I'd consider putting the cost of the warranty aside to cover any unexpected warranty issues and, if there are none, you can re-pocket the cost at the end of the warranty term. After all, any purchased warranty is like any insurance policy...i.e.: it's a crap shoot!
