This hottie made front cover of C&D. Supa-model status! [:D][;)]
<img src="http://homepage.mac.com/lvelano/.Pictures/random/CDtestSLK5500.jpg">

There hasn't been a full road test of the SLK55 in a major american publication until now. R&T doesn't count. While some previews and reviews of the AMG SLK has been mixed at best, I'm happy to report that this one is glowing and will make any SLK owner proud of the car they drive. A while ago, I remember someone getting laughed at for claiming an SLK55 is almost as quick as an SL55. According to C&D's testing, it matches an E55 to a 60mph sprint (4.3 secs) and only 2 tenths slower in the quarter (12.7), making the SLK55 officially just a shade quicker than an SL55 for only half the price. Wow. 4.9 seconds was a gross underestimation (likely on purpose by MB for marketing) and they seem to credit it largely on the "over-achieving" ability of the 7G-tronic transmission. It's a good read. Pick up your June issue of C&D today.

ok fine, I'll post the article. Stop twisting my arm already...

But may I remind you all to pick up an issue. Other notable road tests in the June issue are: Ferrari F430 Spider (drool), and 2 more DC products: ML350 (with the SLK350's new motor) and the Chrysler 300C SRT8 (0-60 in 4.7), both of which also received glowing reviews.

What do you think of the color combo? I like the tan silver.
The article states this is the Diamond Silver which has more of a blue cast than the iridium. The tan probably looks best with the diamond silver since the red or red/black combo would not work as well as it does for the iridium.

yeah, I agree... diamond silver seems like it would conflict with a red/black interior. Tan or Ash looks much better.

They quote a 0-100 kmph of 5.1 seconds in the Canadian brochure, compared to 5.6 for the 350. I have usually seen about a 0.3 second underestimate for most MB vehicles vs the "road tests" of auto mags. This seems a bit of a ridiculous understatement here though.

Must say that I was really struggling with the 350 now vs 55 later decision, but knowing about this kind of power difference would have made that plenty easier.

The color combination is best in you opinion. Personally I don't like red leather much (or care for common Iridium). To me a red interior looks cheap and pinkish in bright light. I like my red on the outside. Also the side vents on the front bumpers are functional on the 55 and not for cosmetic purposes.

that reminds me... imagine what Kleemann's LSD could do on top of all this stock performance.

Makes me think an LSD is all this car will ever need. All of a sudden, a bolt-on supercharger just seems like overkill (in a bad way).

Tan/ Brown/Tobacco Interior?

Anyone know if this is the same "brown" interior being offered in Nappa leather for the SLK280 and SLK350 for 2006 models? Or is the new "brown" the same as the "tobacco brown" featured on last year's SLK350 Launch Edition? Or is it something completely different from either?

Yeah, I'm seriously starting to consider getting an LSD. The Brabus one would be more expensive over the Kleemann one, althought it's only 40% over the 60% of the Kleemann, but it is also warranted by my dealer, whilst the Kleemann probably isn't...

Choices, choices =\

You won't see any benefit on the road, in fact with a short wheelbase it may be even more twitchy. I've had a few 300+ bhp rwd cars with LSDs, and it doesn't help unless you take the car on the track. Under extreme circumstances it just means you fishtail up the road under heavy acceleration when each wheel finds grip, instead of spinning a wheel slightly and travelling in a straight line.

Actually the online subscription is quite a deal. $12 US for 1 year. That is the price of 3 issues off the mag rack in the store. Full digital version (including ads!), that you can keep "forever" on your computer.

I don't KNOW but it looks like tan. Not Nappa brown as in the launch edition which is darker. The launch edition's interior is the best looking by far (IMO). All black a second best.

Yeah, I'm considering the LSD because I've registered for a full season of track events and autocrosses. But do you think it adversely affects day to day driveability of the car? Also, what are your thoughts on how an LSD will interact with the car's ESP system. Also, Kleemann claims an LSD will improve 0-60 sprints by a few tenths of a second... that seems like a tall order since the car already defies the laws of physics by doing it in 4.3 considering its power-to-weight ratio.
