Question for all CLK owners, with aftermarket wheels.
I’m looking for tires and wheels for my CLK55 AMG.
It’s kind of tuff to find wheels that fit correctly.
I’ve seen some photos of CL’s with 19 wheels.
Will 19 fit with out any modifications?
What is the best size wheel other than the stock 17?
What wheel did you buy?
What size wheels do you have Front and Rear??
What size tires do you have Front and Rear?
What bolt size did you use Front and Rear?
Do they rub?
When do they rub?
What did you do about it if anything?
Did you roll your finders?
Who did it for you?
How much?
If it’s inside the finder well what did you do about it?
Which Bolt length did you use on the front and back.?
Is your car lowered?

Which spring kit did you use?
Any problem with bottoming out?
Thanks,
Tim

The most helpful person that I've dealt with as far as wheels and explanations is concerned is Peter from wheelexperts.com. He is a sponsor of the site and is extremely friendly.

I wanted to get HRE 540R's 18x8.5 and 18x10 but opted to use my money on a home theater setup.

Send him an e-mail.

Yes if the offset is correct and right tires are used.

What is the best size wheel other than the stock 17?
18" IMO best compromise of comfort and looks

How much?
19x8.5 AMG CLs - 235/35/19 - 10mm longer bolts (ball type) - $2500

/images/frank/amg.jpg

19x8 and 19x9 Alstadt 1s - 225/35/19 and 255/30/19 - stock bolts

/images/frank/alstadt.jpg

18x8.5/18x9.5 Brabus Monoblock Vs - 235/40/18 - stock bolts - don't remember the price sorry

/images/frank/brabus.jpg

19x8.5 and 19x9.5 Lorinser LM5s - 235/35/19 and 265/30/19

/images/frank/lorinser.jpg

-Do they rub?
No

-When do they rub?
Never

-Did you roll your finders?
No

Who did it for you?
A local shop mounts the tires. I usually swap wheels myself. [email protected] can help you with wheels at the best price !

-Is your car lowered?
Yes

-Which spring kit did you use?
Used to have H&Rs with stock shocks until the the shocks gave up, pretty ok ride. Replaced with Bilsteins, dropped ok, ride a bit harder.

Now have the H&R cup kit. Fantastic ride quality, perfect ride height.

-Any problem with bottoming out?
Only when the stock shocks gave up.

Thanks Frank,
I appreciate the information.
I talked with a guy in Palm Beach; he said his supplier says that S and CL wheels will not fit CLK's.
That CLK's and E are interchangeable.
That’s why I posted the question. I wanted to hear it from people that have actually done it.
The 19 look great but I need something that has a little more sidewall.
Thank you again for your time,
Tim

CLs...

The CLs won't bolt on as is. You need spacers and longer bolts.

Definetly go for 18s. [:D]

With everyones information I can now make an informed decision.
I had HRE 547’s on my Vette 18x11 rear and 18x10 up front.
After having them I decided that there really not worth the money IMO.
Cleaning all those bolts where a pain. They are some of the best looking
wheels around.
Now all I need to do is find some one that will install the H&R suspension pieces.
Did your shock fail due to the shorter travel distance with the new springs?

Re: Frank,With your information I can now make an informed decision.

Did your shock fail due to the shorter travel distance with the new springs?
Yes. Stock shocks don't have enough dampening to cover for the shorter travel so the pressure to the shocks is increased making it fail.

Note to self. Order new shocks with H&R springs![:D]

That's the Lorinser front bumper, AMG side skirts and
rear bumper.

If you haven't noticed, all of those pics are of the same car. Those are all the wheels that I had/have. The first pic is what my car first looked like before.

FRANK... in response to your post on your specs...

Maybe you can help me out. I am about to purchase the 2/5 Carlsson Brilliants from Tirerack. They have 19x8F and 19x10R with 235/35/19 and 265/30/19.

Reading your post on HR CupKit and NO fender rolling and you dont seem to rub at all. Will my setup rub with the HR Cup Kit? I am going to get the same suspension setup as you, but my rears will be 19x10 and seeing that i stay with the same size tire as you. i shouldn't rub.. correct? Thanks in advance.

The TireRack never sells anything that won't fit perfectly so rest assured that it will without any problems.

Unfortunately, they don't make the H&R cupkit for the CLK430 and above.

For ride comfort, I would get Eibachs with Koni shocks. The only thing I don't like about Eibach is the it drops the car sloped (rear a lot higher than than the front)

Medium comfort - H&R with Koni. Nice drop, okay ride

Great handling - H&R with Bilsteins. Nice drop, harsh ride but acceptable.

Personally, I would get H&R with Koni and if you want to get close to the drop of the H&R cup kit, then go with 1pt pads all around.

Thanks Frank..

for your input. Wierd as evo has the HR CUP kit listed for the 430 on their site. I'll look into the koni's and HR. Thanks a bunch!

Although it will fit, the 430 engine is a lot heavier and will make the front suspension bottom out.

You can go to :
http://www.hrsprings.com

to check.
