Ok some suggest going for the NGK but on the autohausaz they have Bosch (they claim is OEM) for $4.5 each. Do not care too much about the price given that they last 80K not to mention the time it takes to change the plugs.

So are the Bosch units correct? I understand they come pre-gapped.

In short what to buy and where to get the pre gapped ones.

Car is 2001 V6

Happy New Year Folks.

I would personally get the Bosch and it has double platinum electrodes as designed.

NGK does make a similar double platinum plug (2647) but it costs much more than the Bosch. The often mentioned (cheaper) NGK 7090 is single platinum but it will work.

Thanks for the quick reply. The original plugs that came with the car are Bosch right?

Just that over in the Volvo world, Bosch plugs have a bad rep. Autohaus is selling the Bosch for $4.5 and I will go with that.

I'm running "made in Mexico" Autolite plugs (AP3924) and they work great! Part throttle response and torque improved dramatically.

Many spark plugs will work.

The OEM plugs, however, are:

Bosch F8DPER replaced by FR8DPP33
Beru 14 FGH 8 DPUR X2
NGK PFR5R-11 replaced by PFR5G-11 (2647) or IFR5D10 or (4696)
Champion KC 11 PYP

I used the NGK 7090 based on recommendations on this forum. Anyone have problems with this plug? Paul

No problem I have heard of, pvel. The NGK 7090 does work as indicated by the NGK website. However, I have not heard of them going for 100k miles yet. :D

OP was more interested in "So are the Bosch units correct?" so I gave him the list from Mercedes WIS.

Well my original plugs are still in the car. I always knew it as a 100,000 mile interval on the plugs. I missed the 5 year part. Our car currently has 104K on it and will very soon have a new set of plugs. I have randomly pulled plugs a few times to spot check them and each time they looked really decent. The car still runs fine and is getting decent mileage but since the suggested interval is 100K I figured I better do them really soon. So, within the next 1,000mi. I will be changing all filters, new plugs, new oil, and a simple tranny drain and fill. Then all should be good to go for a while.

I really love cars that are this easy to care for.

You are

past due.
And anytime you pull a plug you end the sealing of the crush gasket in those installed so if you do the work it entails on the m112 and ,113 engines to pull plugs replace them. Don't just stand there lookin at em:D

ohlord,
Back 4 months ago I replaced all wires and plugs to get rid of the misfire code in left bank. Since then the engine has a sound developed lately different than it was. It start to have sport exhaust noise when ever the gas peddle is pushed. Does it mean by cats. starts to go out ? The car has close to 100K now. It used to be much quieter.

Similar condition in mine was cured by new engine mounts. Have yours been replaced? Do you have the vibration at idle in D, significantly reduced in P?

my friend mought me a spark plug cleaning machine, I thought how crazy, if I take the time to remove a spark plug I am replacing it with a brand new one no question about it! They really don't cost much, and in my opinion it is stupid to clean them! With Mercedes I ALWAYS use the exact plug the owner manual says to use, in these cases usually either NGK or Bosch. Ive always liked Bosch products but I know a lot of mechanics and several of them don't like Bosch plugs and say they break the ceramic insulators, maybe it is just superstition but what I removed from most of my Benzos are always NGK so I buy NGK from the NGK website, and have always specified to them when ordering, NO Substitutes please. And always happy. And regarding engine mounts, people almost never get new engine mounts due to the high cost at a dealership and when I buy a used Benz I almost always get new engine & trans mounts first thing! and NOT at a dealership!!! That would be robbery.
