Hi there
my coolent level light came on while driving. I stopped and checked the level. The coolent tank was still full. suspected the level probe to befaulty. i changed the level probe. The light still stays on. how does this level switch work. majority of level switches work with a magnet and a float. i don't see a float is the float inside the tank. Is the level switch a normal contact. So if I bridge the wires going to the level switch the light should go off. am I correct in presumimg this.

Mercedes deviated from the K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple stupid) principle with the coolant sensors.
There is a bridge circuit between the engine coolant sensor and the windscreen washer fluid reservoir sensor.
Shorting out the sensor will not extinguish the warning light - there's a resistance required.
The sensors are not straight forward on off magnetic switches.

You will need to change the whole sensor.

Hi there.

I replaced the complete sensor in the coolant reservoir. It's a probe that goes into a the bottle, What switches this probe as it is outside of the water. Is there a float inside the bottle, that moves up along the jacket, that the probe fits into.
