Can anyone here tell me how important it is to have your coolant changed every three years as the owners manual says? Along with my 2001 E320 I also have a 2004 volvo S40. The owners manual of the Volvo says that the coolant never has to be changed. I just wanted to get some opinions on the importance of changing the coolant and what could happen if I put it off for too long. Thanks[:D]

The Coolant needs to be changed at regular intervals bec. in due time it's properties starts to deteriorate(cooling effect/heat dessipation, lubrication, etc). Most modern engines uses Aluminum and is very sensitive to the type of coolant(Alum. safe type only) and coolant properties than older engine metals. As for the "lifetime" coolants---Coolants are cheaper than metals[:)]
