I learned a cool thing about Mercedes part numbers that may increase your MB trivia score...

Take this part for example:

MERCEDES BENZ SLK MODEL DRIVER DOOR SHELL

PART NUMBER: A 170 720 13 05 7211

The (A) means that it is a Standard part. If it started with a (B) it would be an Accessory, and an (H) is an AMG part.

The (170) is the Model it was made for. In this case, an SLK R170.

(720) is a Group number. Drop the 0 and it is a group (72) interior part.

the (05) is the Part Type like a door panel.

The (7211) is a specific Trim code.

And last but not least, the (13) is the number of times this part has been changed or modified.

I find the last bit of information most interesting...
