I have a 2003 SL500 that I bought used. My seat does not operate automatically when entering and exiting the vehicle. I have set it multiple times in the command center. There is an error code for it but with no explanation of why of course.

Does anyone have any ideas?

what type of error are you encountering? does your steering wheel move up when you set up the convience option through the menu? I have a 2003 and the steering wheel will move when the driver door is openned. I was never able to adjust my seat though.

The seat and wheel only move under certain circumstances. If you are a small person (or short arms and legs) and have the seat up close to the wheel, then the seat and wheel will move. I confirmed this with MB when I bought my 05 SL. The manual leads you to belive that it always moves back.. It doesn't.

Get the dealer to reset the seat memory unit - sometimes the loss of battery power in the accessory battery (a known issue) causes the seat memory unit to go haywire.
Resetting the unit should be free of charge and it fixes the problem.

Agree. Try setting your seat way forward to test. If that works, gradually move back to see where it stops.

I set the seat up closer to steering wheel (not midget close or anything but closer than where I currently sit by approximatly 4 or 6 inches)and sure enough the convience slide works. I thought it was weird that I am sitting right outside of the slide zone.
