I recently purchased a 95 SL600 that was purchased and serviced at MB BH and the second owner serviced the car at Star. I have contacted both shops but have not had any luck getting records. MB BH said they don't keep them that far back and Star never called back. I have the names of the owners when the car was serviced at those shops and of course the car and title.

Something my shops have always told me is "The car will not lie to me" A good shop can tell you everything with or without records. I can see most dealers not keeping records that far back. At that point it is usually up to the owner to have a binder full of service records. I had a 1996 SL600 years back. Great car!

In my experience, most dealers will share any service history they have on a car as long as you can prove ownership. As mentioned, however, I wouldn't necessarily expect them to have all the records for my 1989 560SL, for example, but I'm fortunate to already have all the records going back to when the car was first purchased.

Have you contacted the respective dealer's Service Managers and, if they couldn't/wouldn't help, have you tried touching base with the General Managers to get the info you're looking for? Also, if you can't get either of these dealerships to help you with the car's service history, Bryan, with proof of ownership, any other dealership should have some/all info regarding work done at other M-B dealers.

Thanks for the replys. I have some records and I have contacts at a local MB dealer that I was an advisor at, so I have the VMI. Customer pay data wasn't not kept on the VMI until recently and it's a low mileage car so there were very few warranty repairs. I am bring all the maintenance items up to date right now along with quite a few other needed repairs (top cylinders, ads valve, radio). I just like to have the records if I can get them.
