What do you all think? 2001 SL500 sport xenon headlights with 62k miles for 17.5k or 18k? Two owner in really good condition per owner. I have always dreamed about one of these and have been looking for a nice clean one.

SL500 price

Just trying to get a feel for pricing? I hate to go look at it because if it's clean.......I have no will power.

If it were me and I really wanted it I would do the following.

Go inspect the car and be ready to make an offer. I would offer in the 12.5-13K range to see where it goes from there.

1. Get as many maintenance / repair records as you can.

2. Let the seller know the offer is based on it passing a used car survey by a good local MB repair shop... It will be the best $150-$200 you will every spend on the car.

3. Run the top up and down at least 4-5 times.

2. Get a Carfax report... Not 100% accurate but worth the money.

Don't think you would need to pay over 15K for it.

All IMHO.

Sounds like the top of the spectrum. That might be ok if the maintainance, papers, etc are flawless. If it has the maintainance schedule filled out and stamped by an authorized service facility that makes a huge difference. The watchword is due diligence. Get a pre-purchase inspection by a knowledgeable shop. Then you have a reasonable insight into it's condition. If the thing is perfect, a little spent on the front end may save thousands later!

getting an inspection would be a great idea before you buy it. and the price does seem high. i wouldn't really play more then about 15,000 for it personally, and that is if it is near flawless.

So where is everyone finding 40k and 50k mile cars for $15k? Are there better car sites than eBay, autotrader, and cars.com? Everything nice I see is in the $18k up to 23+

No not bad but I had already seen that car. Per original post I still can't find a low mileage sport with xenon option car in the 15k range

Looks like you have two options then.

1. Keep looking
Or
2. Offer $13K and see where it ends up and pay the $18K if you feel OK with it.

I thought Sport just meant the different bumper covers and side skirts which became standard in '99.

What else does one get for the Sport option on a 2001 SL?
