My 2008 ML350 (the W164) has MB Tex. It is Mercedes fake leather. It really is better than leather in that it wears very well, without stretching, sagging, staining, cracking, discoloration. No special cleaning required.

Although - to be honest - if it were not by Mercedes, we'd criticize it as fake.

But as my deck rots and my house siding gets more woodpecker holes my wife and I are embracing synthetics wherever we can - they are usually better.

When I researched, some people hated it versus real leather.

But I have never seen even ONE ML with real leather. It was all the imitation leather, as Mercedes calls it. And I had it in my E320.

My 2014 ML350 build sheet says it is real leather and it crinkles just like that in my Durango. It seems you can only get ventilated seats with leather. As to wearability, check out this thread on another forum. Seems that the GLE's got a bad batch of MB Tex, and the replacements may not be any better.

I'm going for a 2009 or 2010 M-class (if I can finally find one) - so it's out of that year with the sloppy seats, thanks!

That's one with imitation leather seats like all the others - verified using VIN decoder.

PS: And another black car. I'm looking for a white and silver one, and - I don't kid - ALL the cars that pop up and look good in the LA area are - BLACK. Crazy hot to have a black car in California and drive around the land a lot (and not park it in an office or home garage all the other times).

True about the black. It's hot here in Houston. The unfortunate part is that black, white, and gray are the absence of color. I sit at a side street traffic light and watch dozens of cars go by on the main drag. Hardly any colors. Boring. My wife's ML350 is black, my 13' Durango R/T is red, and my '67 GTO is turquoise. At least some color in the garage. Seeing more red these days though. Good luck with your hunt.

There are certain cars that look great in black, and others that don't. I have black SL500, which is all black except the grille, the 3 pointed star on the trunk and the edge of the rims. Everything else is blacked out so it looks pretty good. I live in San Francisco, which it's not as hot a LA, so I can live with a black car in the occasional heat.

But when My wife and I were looking to replace the aging ML320, she first wanted a black car, but once she sat in one (all black, exterior & interior), the first thing she said was how dreary and cavernous it was inside. We ended up getting a champagne/gold color one, with tan interior. and yes, it has the MB-Tex upholstery, which is not as nice as real leather, when the leather is new, but leather doesn't stay looking new forever, especially in a car that will be driven daily.

Yes, black can give you the feeling of things closing in.

I think the black ones look nice, but I live in LA - park a black car in the sun and you've got yourself a proper oven.

I like working in my car, and I don't want the AC on all the time, in fact, I mostly drive with the AC off and just windows open.

My first Mercedes was dark blue, and it was melting hot inside. My second was silver, and even after parking in the sun for few hours: you open the windows and within half a minute it's all cool.

Looks like I'm not going to find in the LA area what I'm looking for and will have to go far to get a white or silver car with light gray interior.

Until now I always thought the tan one not good, but you have a point with the cavernous feel. My first Mercedes was tan and it gave you a friendly feeling. I think tan is the most used interior color for ML350s.
