After having my '02 ML55 for a couple of months, it just came back from a complete service at the dealership.

This is a 2002 ML55, with 78k miles. The previous owner had the car repossessed by the bank who financed it so it sat at the bank's lot for a few months before going to auction, where it's been sitting at the car dealer I wound up purchasing it from 2-months ago. The car has basically been sitting for a year or so. With no services done to it recently.

I come along and buy it. Immediately, I had the brakes redone and new tires put on: $1500 by my Indie. Also: Purchased a new parcel shelf: $500.

Brought it to the dealership for updates (it needed a recall notice taken care of) and they found the following:

Emergency Brake needed to be replaced: $400
Oil leak from Engine valve covers and breathers. Replaced both side valve cover gaskets and reseal oil baffle: $500
Flushed brake system (had original brake fluid) and replace/bleed system: $100
Transmission service: $400 includes about $150 in parts
Replaced horn (one not working): $250 for both
Driveline serviced: $100
Power Steering flushed: $150
Total: $1900

That's it. Pronounced 'good as new' by dealer.

Price: $15k to buy it. $2k for indie work/new tires/new parcel shelf. $1900 for dealer work, Grand total of new ownership: $18,900, with car given the proverbial Pope's blessing by the dealership.

Good deal, or no?

Thanks!

I'm one of those who insists on everything working and as it should be in my cars, therefore I needed to get the dealer's assurances all was well with the vehicle, so maybe, just maybe, I go a tad overboard on insisting everything be 'perfect' on the car.

Get your SA to confirm they bleed the front calipers, it's a ML55 sticking point about those little beasty Brembo parts up there, they freeze up and break:

Flushed brake system (had original brake fluid) and replace/bleed system: $100
