First: Fill out your profile! We have no idea what kind of car you have or where you are located.

That is odd through, because the control knob is simply a device on the entertainment "MOST" bus, meaning it isn't wired directly to the stereo but they talk to each other over the network. It is it's own device with firmware and everything. Did you replace the entire control unit, or just replace the broken shaft? Was it the exact same part number as the original unit? Have you checked the fuses? Did you do any other repairs or changes when swapping out the knob? Are there any other components that aren't working?

I would start by unplugging the knob and seeing if the stereo turns on. It should, even with the knob disconnected. That will tell you if the knob unit itself is causing the problem or if you have another issue. If you have a mechanic or friend with a MB SDS/Xentry computer, it will tell you exactly where the problem lies.

The only maintenance I did was replacing the broken shaft inside the command button the command button.
The stereo in the car works just fine. The only thing that has no functional ability is the display screen its black.
I have checked what I think are all the fuses , unless I am missing something
I took it to the dealership and they said the screen is the problem. I have not replaced the screen as yet because I am not sold on the idea that it is bad.

if the screen is indeed the problem does anyone know where I can get another one besides the dealership.
at this point I am even willing to use an after market screen if available
thanks in advance

Ah. Details! So it's just the display itself that isn't working. That is certainly much easier & cheaper fix. Since it is just the display, I would tend to agree with MB as replacing the shaft in your control knob would have zero affect on that as it is NOT connected to the MOST bus. Just a coincidence that it happened around the same time.

You can get replacement screens all over eBay. I would pull the existing screen and check all the connections first though. Could be just a loose connection.
