The NTG 2.5 COMAND is very finicky about accepting SD cards. I think it has to be 2GB or less and formatted for FAT32. Keep in mind you can also copy MP3 files to a CD-R (or DVD-R) and copy from that.

Is there an option to format an empty card in it first?

4GB and maybe 16GB should be the boundaries even for the late 2000s?

It should solve any compatibility.

And of course we can put up to 200 MP3 tracks on a CD.

Do you mean formatting the card within command, then no it won't give any sub menus for either the register or the SD card, I've reset the whole system to no avail, the SD is a sdhc 16gb

Yes, I meant if it can format an SD card. Shame it can't.

By the way what do you mean by register? I'm not familiar with that.

The SD card size may well be the problem, have you got smaller ones to try? I haven't got the COMAND system to try for you.

Can it play MP3 tracks on a CD? If yes, that's a possible solution for you since a 700MB CD can hold around 200 tracks if they're around 3MB each.

I'm still learning about these new fangled gadgets on post-2002 Mercs, so apologies if I lead you astray, double-check everything I say! :)

Jim, the NTG 2.5 COMAND unit has an internal hard drive that can store music. You can copy to it either from an SD card, or rip or copy from CD's. I think it holds about 4GB (it shares space with the NAV maps).

Like I said, the COMAND seems to only recognize SD cards up to 2GB, and also they must be the old "slow" style. The SD-II or HC cards won't work. I have a box of SD cards and only found one that would work.

And Jazzoo, ss for Music Register not working, I think you have to load songs onto its hard drive first. Once you get this working, keep in mind that it doesn't do playlists. All you can do is use folders. In case you don't have the manual:

Very many thanks Rudeney.

What's the card that you found worked?

I had an SD slot in my old laptop but my current ones I'd need a USB SD adapter to use one. I think I've got one but I'd need to dig for it in my piles of old kit. Amazing how much we accumulate, stacks of 40GB hard disk drives and such.

Mine is a Sandisk Ultra II 2GB SD card. It happens to be one of those with a built-in flip-out USB connector, but I doubt that feature has anything to do with it working in the COMAND.

So how are users supposed to use them bud?

Is it just to copy mp3s to the SD card from a laptop then plug it into the car system?

Yes, you can play music from the SD card, or copy its contents to the hard drive.
