Can anyone tell me why my comand keeps losing its location.Every time it goes off a digitised road I have to reset the location. It is also not showing any satellites recived on the map screen. However as long as it is on a digitised road the system works fine.
Please help its driving me insane!

Thanks Stuart.

They keyword here are 'Digitized road". Depending on where you are, and which regional program you are runnint this will happen ofter. BUt, there really is no need to reset you location as your system will find itself once it's on a road that the program understands.

Mb command is kinda crazy like that. They did not make many provisions for "off the beaten path" activity, there fore when the system is "lost" sometimes the Satellite monitor goes to zero because it will invalidate them somehow if the location signals it receives aren't matching any map data.

I know this sounds stupid, but it's is true.
The only other possibility is that you have something going on with your antenna, but this is not the case as you stated that the system works fine when you are in familiar territory.

This is one of the reasons I am not the biggest fan of mB command but it just looks great in my car, and all off the other functionality makes up for this small stuff in a big way to me..

If you dont have any sat signals then the car is running in speed pulse mode like it would in a tunnel. Once it goes off-road it will assume that you are lost in a jungle and take up to 10min to get back on-road.

Get that satellite feed sorted out. The antenna is on holidays.

I had this exact problem - no sat signal at all. Turned out that the antenna had become disconnected. Sounds simple but my technician told me that they had to remove the back windshield in order to fix. They had the car three days. Nav now works fine. Thanks goodness the car was under warrenty.

Truth is that it took 15 minutes and didnt require anything to be taken out. The satellite antenna has a patch in the rear right top corner that can be seen once both c-pillars are removed.

A workshop mechanic should be able to do it while you wait.

I have had merc check the ariel and after a bill for £260 to diagnose the problem they tell me its the comand unit at fault. They say they can't repair the unit although its only the gps signal thats not working. They will change it at a cost of £2800, but I said no thanks ( or words that added up to the same!!).The actual nav directions still work but doesn't show any sats been recived. Is there a non merc repair specialist that will open it up and sort it out (ideally in the midlands area)

Thanks Stuart.

Steve at www.mbenznl.com will sell you a replacement unit.

Is there any reason why they did check the integrity of the cable ?

You could bypass the rear antenna with an under-dash one and if it was found that you then had a satellite signal then you could feel justified in telling the dealer to refund a portion of the fee (I'd settle for 1/2).

If you drop into www.mbclub.co.uk you might find that there is someone local who can lend you a small number of parts to do a comparitive test.

It doesnt even have to be a proper replacement unit, it could be any COMAND 2.0 and any antenna feed for the purpose of testing.

I would say that it could be done in an hour or two with a great degree of certainty.
