So, when you did the coil-over modification, did you leave the ABC system in place? What did you do with the lines that were going to the original shoks?

I suppose you could replace the tandem pump with a basic power steering pump. Since there was no "standard" pump for the R230, you'll have to get one from a different model. l think you'll probably find that models that offered the ABC as an option like the S500 or the CL class were available with standard power steering pumps which will probably fit.

I'm sure if you do a search around here, you'll find that information.

BTW, did you use the sway bars on your mod, or just replaced the shocks?

dudeman, I could really use an answer to the power steering pump question when coil over is used. I have read s500 and ml500 of the same year. Will the hoses reach and fit?

Jimmy,
Thank you for help in making this project a reality and for saving lots on r230s heading for scrap. Do be careful with removing the pentosin. What would you replace it with?

I wouldn't do that. Read up what happens to the tandem pump when you loose the ABC fluid. Most of the guys here that had a problem with a broken ABC Hose and total loss of fluid, ended up up having to replace the pump, so you taking out all the fluid would end up with the same results.

Just replace the pump with a standard power steering pump from an ML500, CL500 or S500.

Speaking of Sway Bars (or lack of them), have you put the car into any high speed turns or emergency maneuvers?

The ability to dial in a soft or stiff ride, is not a substitute for the sway bars.

Do you mean the same year? Will they all fit? Will the hoses reach?

Bless you in advance

I don't know if the same model year is required, I don't think so, but the person that could probably help you with that question is Rodney (Rudeney).

Sorry, I can't tell you what pump to use. There was never an official non-ABC PS pump for the R230 other than SL350. it was not sold in the USA, and the PS pump was specific to that model - it shows no cross-references to any other cars. I have heard that the PS pump from an SL500 will work. My guess is part number A0024668601 or A0024668701 - but that is just a guess!
