So, I looked and I have the 16-pin deal on the firewall of my 1992 SL500 on the passenger side. Is there a code reader tool available that anyone knows of? I have seen the posts with homemade options and the newer, more pin OBDII readers, but I understand in the 1992 I need something different. Any suggestions would be appreciated on where to look/buy. I checked ebay and everything is an adapter.

Code Reader Confusion...

AAM - I realize now that my code diagnostics are built in, after purchasing a code reader.
Looks like 16-pin set up on firewall. This is originally a CA car. #2 is a button, #4 is an LED. So, the question is, how to run the diagnostics and reset codes? I did use the code reader and got fault lights on #3 and #11 (8 flashes and 6 flashes, respectively).

Can you tell me how to use the on-board system and reset codes? Car is running fine but the dang check engine light is on.

Thanks for the help!

You still need the code reader to read all of the pins. Use the built in button and LED to check for the check engine light codes. The best and most comprehensive source of information on reading OBDI codes is the Baum Tools CS1000 manual for Mercedes. If you can't find it on the internet send me a PM with your email address.

Key on dash lights on.

Engine off.

You push the button for 3 seconds.

Read codes.

To Erase push for about 8-10 seconds.

See if codes are off.

One blink means OK.

If yes.

Congratulate your self, have a drink. :)

You have no idea, how many times I did that...

That's why I don't pay attention to codes. Lol.

Regards,
aam.
