Hi everyone, I've spent the last 2 hours reading this whole forum. Loving all the good info!

I'm from up North, Vancouver BC, Canada. (anyone else?) Considering a CLS for my next vehicle! Will be a daily driver. I saw these 2 local used ones and open to any opinions or suggestions. The prices seem high because cars are that much more expensive up here and are affected by the recent currency rate.

2007 CLS550 AMG Package
-7100kms (4411 miles)
-Black on Black
-$61,000

2007 CLS63 AMG
-43000kms (26700 miles)
-Blue on Black
-$66,000

I really want the AMG and there are 2 other ones on the market but out of my price range.

Do yourself a favor and don't even think about getting the 550. If you have the means, get the 63. My daily driver is a 2007 550 with the AMG package and I can honestly say, for the first year or so I thought I was the king of the world. But if you're anything like me, you'll eventually crave more. I like knowing that when I pull out of my driveway, the car I'm driving is the car I want to drive 99% of the time. But it's that 1% of the time, normally when I see a 63 on the road, I get so mad I could spit nails. It's funny cuz if I see a Ferrari or a Lambo, or even a Aston Martin, I don't really get jealous or mad. I think it's because I'll need to be in another tax bracket before I can even dream about those cars. But here in the states, you can get a low mileage 63 for what I bought my 550 for a couple years ago. 382hp is nice, but once you drive a car with over the 500hp, you'll never want to go back. If I could do it all over again, I would definitely go with the 63. Please know that I'm not putting down the 550. It's the car I drive after all. But trust me when I tell you that it's worth it for the 63. Curious to know if I'm the only one that feels this way or if others feel the same. Good luck either way you decide!

Thanks for the input!

That's basically the reason why I'm can't pull the trigger on the mint CLS550. If I see 63s or 55s when I'm driving in my 550, this will be my reaction.(jealous) :((sigh) :crybaby2:(why didn't I buy the 63).

I guess it will be cls55 or cls63 now then.

Any other unsatisifed cls550s out there?

I'll counterpoint with a vote for the CLS550. Let's get real. How often can you really use the 500+ horsepower. The base engine has plenty of power for everybody but the hard core street racer. But you need to decide how much you really need the power.

Now let's talk appearance. I agree the CLS63 looks terrific, and better than the CLS550. But for about $700 US you can add a rear lip spoiler and replace the front grille with a AMG style 3-Bar Grille and get most of the appearance of the AMG. I've done those mods on my CLS550 and am very happy with the appearance. You'll already get the AMG wheels since you said the CLS550 had the AMG Sport Package. They will be 18" vs. 19", but it's really hard to see the difference. I agree the quad exhaust really sets off the CLS63 and looks terrific. That one is a much tougher and a more expensive retrofit. But bottom line is the base CLS550 looks awfully darn good.

Final consideration is operating and maintenance cost. The CLS63 get worse gas mileage and repairs are much more expensive, especially on brakes.

Of course, if money were no object, I'd get the CLS63. But I don't think you really sacrifice much driving the CLS550. And while the price seems similar, the CLS550 has only 4,400 miles, I mean that is like just off the showroom fresh and new. The CLS63 with 27,000 miles is still low, but in my view a quarter used up. And will now start needing some of those costly maintenance items.

Wait, your 550 has dual exhaust right? Mine does. I love my naturally aspirated car! There's always Renntech if you wanna squeeze out a little more hp.
Edit: Oh nevermind I think you mean the quad tips on the exhaust.

Of course mine has dual exhaust. I guess I should have said the quad exhaust on the CLS63 looks great. One thing I think is a little odd is that the dual exhaust on the base CLS550 is larger in diameter (or bigger oval) than the CLS550 with the AMG Sport Package. I much prefer the look of the exhaust pipes on the CLS550 without the AMG Sport Package.

Thanks for your input artdiefenbach.
I agree with you too as the cls550 is in pristine condition with all the amg goodies except performance.

Now I've changed my mind to cls550 and cls55AMG since thats closer to my price range. I really want the AMG, cuz I just sold my previous car (corvette). ANd I'm scared I might be bored with the 550 after a while.

so 2007 cls550 or 2006 cls55 AMG?
Are there any cons with the CLS55 AMG compared with the newer 07 CLS550?

the 55 is supercharged while the 63 isn't. There is something about that supercharger just screaming over the top of the V8 machine gunning away when you give it a kick every now and then that is just insane. the 63 isn't as mad sounding although still fantastic. I am a bit biased as i have the CLS 55 AMG. Maybe I would find a reason to like the 63 more if I had this?? I don't mind spending $5.00 every time I put my foot down for a few seconds as it is soo addictive.
Both f....ing insane cars though.

My method for selecting a car I know I'll love is that the moment I see it, my gut reaction is that, really, I'm not worthy of a car that nice. That usually leads to spending a good deal more than I planned. The pain of the purchase fades, but the love of the car lingers, and it gets reinforced every time I get behind the wheel. I vote 63. You'll never own the 63 and look back with regret that you missed out on a 550.
