Hi all, I've just bought a nice 1999 clk430 and being a steel fabricater I'm intending to build a completely new exhaust for it. I'm thinking of doing away with the cats completely and keeping it as free flowing as possible and having twin back boxes. As I haven't had a lot of experience with these cars I was wondering if anyone has done or had bought the same thing and how it worked.

Any help like recommended diameters, placement of O2 sensors ect would be really appreciated.

Thanks, Alex

You wont get twin mufflers at the rear without cutting the floor and moving the battery. Swapping the secondary cats with high flows has been proven to net some nice results. This will still be a street car right? Removing all the cats would not be a direction for me unless this will be a "track only" car. Check out Ghostrider (P1 performance) set up, He did a really nice exhaust setup for the 208.

He's right the spare tire compartment in the trunk causes issues with a dual exhaust/muffler but it can be done. See vipclk320 posts. I think he has done it. I would not remove the primary cats. There are oxygen sensors located before and after the primaries that provide info to the computer. I have read on this forum that if you remove too much of the restriction/back pressure you will lose low end torque. Use the Search function and you will be able to find many pages to read. Good luck.

I have priced some of the exhaust components for the v8 and they are ugly to say the least.
You might be on to something if it is street legal and enhances the performance a bit.
A co emission analyzer and a dyno test would be for good before and after results.
Keep us posted :)

cheers, Mike

Cheers for the support chaps, I'll be starting it very shortly. I think with the info that I have I'm going to make a complete system from the manifolds back, keeping the primary cats in place but using 'race' cats. I'll keep you posted as to the progress, and yeah i'm definately going to dyno it before and after. I have a friend that does re-mapping so after i've got good results with the new system on the standard map I'll have it will be re-mapped and see whatI get.

I'll post again soon :)

I had mine done in Kentucky for $300 including parts. I bought a magna flow with 3" in and out. Single pipe. I removed secondary cats too and with no issue. The cats are high flowing and I should have kept them.
