HI THERE,[ SORRY THIS IS A BIT LONG]
I AM HOPING SOMEONE CAN POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION,, I HAVE HAD A 430 CLK CABRIO FOR THE LAST 5 MONTHS, FOR THE LAST 2 MONTHS IT HAS DEVELOPED AN INTERMITTANT FAULT, SOMETIMES WHEN YOU COME BACK TO IT AND PUSH THE REMOTE, NOTHING UNLOCKS [I HAVE CHECKED BATTERIES & TRIED BOTH REMOTES] AND YOU HAVE TO USE EMERGENCY KEY TO UNLOCK. THIS OBVIOUSLY SETS OFF THE SIREN BUT IT DOES NOT TURN OFF ONCE YOU PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO.THE ENGINE STARTS FINE BUT THE ELECTRIC SEATS/WINDOWS, DRIVERS MIRROR,AND OCCASIONALLY THE INDICATORS AND HORN DO NOT WORK [ONCE WIPERS TOO].I HAVE A COUPLE OF TIMES HAD TO DRIVE TO WORK LIKE THIS, THEN WHEN I GET THERE IT WILL ALL RESET AND BE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN DO IT AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN INTO TWO DIFFERENT MERCEDES-BENZ GARAGES NOW FOR DIAGNOSTICS, THE FIRST SAID THE "FRONT SAM" WAS NOT COMMUNICATING AND REPLACED THAT, {IT DID IT AGAIN THE NEXT DAY} & THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION. THE NEXT MERC GARAGE THOUGHT IT MAY BE THE IGNITION BUT NOTHING ON THEIR DIAGNOSIS REPORT SUPPORTED THAT, SOME "CAN COMMUNICATION " FAULTS BUT NOTHING OBVIOUSLY THE CAUSE.THE ONLY VAGUE THING I FOUND WAS THAT SOMETIMES IT WOULD RESET IF I OPENED AND CLOSED THE BONNET/HOOD SO MY MECHANIC CLEANED UP THE SWITCH BUT IT STILL DOES IT.I THINK ALSO IT SEEMS TO DO IT WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE DROPS, BUT THAT MAY JUST BE COINCIDENTAL AS I LIVE IN LONDON,UK & THE TEMP ALWAYS SEEMS TO DROP, ha HA.
ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS FAULT OR KNOW OF A POSSIBLE SOLUTION? I DON'T REALLY WANT TO GIVE IT BACK TO MERCEDES FOR OBVIOUS COST AND TIME WASTING ISSUES.
THANKS IN ADVANCE IF YOU CAN ASSIST ME......

I realize this is a silly question, but have you tried changing the batteries in your Key?

It started happening to me with one of the keys and I replaced the battery in it, never happened again!

Hey Jamesmac123...
just so you know...
when you write a long post and use caps it is difficult to read.

So, use lower case letters and many paragraphs so we can read it easier.

Hope your problem is the battery in the key.

Cheers!!

You might try your second key, if you have one.

I had trouble with one of my keys intermittently not unlocking upon insertion into the ignition switch that was not resolved by a new battery.

The dealer replaced the key under warranty, they are around $200 otherwise...

I had this problem a while back... I am still not sure what caused it, but it went away. For about a week, my sunroof didn't want to always close, I kept being prompted for the radio code, and sometimes the car either wouldnt unlock the doors or the car wouldnt start... it was the weirdest thing. My service adviser said it sounded like i might have a problem with my battery or alternator causing the ECU to keep resetting itself when I turned the car off. My check engine light was on at the same time so I was already taking the car in to get a Mass Air Flow sensor replaced. After they replaced the MAF... magically, the odd problems went away and haven't come back (been about 10 months, *knock on wood*)... I doubt they were related... but it was strange.
GOod Luck.

Unfortunately not.. has been in to another mercedes specialist, replaced the door switches. brake switch and the tow-away sensor..did it the next day again. I am letting him keep it for the easter weekend to try and see if it does it while he uses it, if not , at least he has a nice car for the weekend , eh!

After replacing the batteries, did the key need reprogramming?
