I have reprogramed the Climate Control Unit from my 1997 S-Class, to display the tempeature from fahrenheit to celsius, and it works well;BUT ever since i did this change, the Back Light of the Climate Control Unit does not work when i turn on the lights. The interesting thing is that when the ignition is off and i press the REST button, the unit turns on and so does the Backlight. What could be the problem ? Do i need to reprogram something on the Climate Control Unit ? Obviously the Light Bulbs are still working.
Does anybody have a list of the Numerical Values and Preliminary Settings for those Climate Control Units ?
What could be the problem ? Any help will be gratly appreciated.

Yes you need to reprogam it

you might have changed the vehicle type which may result in it not picking the signal to illuminate

i had the list... uhm.. hang on. i should have saved that

ps. and now i can't find it. it was an obscure pdf document, takes some googling to get to

Keeping it to the same thread might help?;
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w140-s-class/1550563-i-have-question-do-guys-know.html

You might have been able to tell the Climate that you want C instead of F, or vice-versa,
but at the same time, you implicit tells it, that it is a <1997 car...

I do not know how to change it for a 1997, but I think, if you tell the Climate, that it
should get C or F from the Cluster, P1 as 72, it will also get the illumination information
correctly.

I clearly states, that for a 1997 model, P1 should be 72.

well, i managed to reprogram the Climate Control to its original settings, including from celsius to Fahrenheit, and now the Backlight is working. I guess because the instrument cluster shows the outside temperature in Fahrenheit, the Climate Control has to also inorder to accept its signal. Is there a way to change the outside temperature display in the instrument cluster from Fahrenheit to Celsius, so that the Climate Control Unit will work in Celsius with the Backlight ?

I do not have the answer, but reading this, at the bottom;
STAR TekInfo
its clear that the switch information C or F, is sent by the IC down to A/C via K1.

So, it must be programming of the IC, but I cannot find any instructions on that
there. I will have a look in the DAS system, but I believe I have tried that before
without finding anything, so maybe its just a version-coding possible when you
replace and install another IC...
