it's coming from some small black device located above the driver side wheel. it has a few wires and hoses attached. the clicking sound can actually be felt if you touch it. weird? normal?

That is the purge valve. A little ticking is fine. If it is too loud, you can try to clean it first.

Be glad

Be glad it is ticking. If it was broken you wouldn't have any noise at all. Don't sweat it unless it's ridiculously loud. Cheers!
