Greetings everyone

I've got w124 with a nagging problem.

On acceleration, the rear left wheel clicks. It gets louder on right turns (when side load is put on the wheel). I think it clicks once per rotation, louder when the tank is filled. It comes and goes.

My mechanic is something of a surgeon but he cannot find what's causing it. I'm not suggesting I know more than he does, but there's only one thing we haven't thought of: I believe it's running a set on non-factory 16 inch wheels... if the wheel studs are fractionally too long, could they be knocking against something?

My mechanic's taken everything apart a number of times. There's nothing loose, the inner brake is good, axles and bearings are fine. I don't know what else it could be apart from a wheel stud. Thinking about it, making a right turn would press the stud in harder under side load, contributing to the sound... a reasonable theory?!

Any thoughts welcome.
