Read this somewhere and tried it with fabulous results. New to me, hope it helps someone else.

Obviously the male pin is easy - it's the female that's a bitch.

Take a drill bit somewhat smaller than the pin, wrap some 0000 steel wool around the end by tearing off a small piece and running the drill. When it's all wadded up on the bit, use it to ream out the female pin contacts. Works like a charm.

It will work...but you have to be carefully....it's very possible to stretch out the female pins doing this....if you have the connector open and can retighten them not an issue....but just cleaning them out this way, it is very possible to stretch them out and then have issues with connections....
