Cigarette Lighter for 86 560 SL?

It seems odd that my 560 SL does not have a cigarette lighter, but has an ash tray in the center dash. Is it supposed to have a cigarette lighter? Sure would be convenient for some of those plug-in road accessories.

Lighter

I have an '86 560 SL. It has a lighter installed in the left side of the ash tray.

I just checked the maintenance manual to see if there were variations, but there was not much detail. The wiring diagram does include the lighter.
