alright, on my 93 300E, i have chrome around my rear and front windows, also around the sides. sadly, these have faded over time!! cry cry, i know. i have tried chrome polish and soem other stuff, but it won't bring the chrome back to its original glory. any other cars that do this? if so, how do i go about fixing this?? thanks

Post some pictures, see what we're looking at here.

The strips around my front and rear windows are a darker smoked color. So if yours are a darker color like that, then that's how it's supposed to be.

Yeah, probably anodized aluminum. Double-check with a magnet. Chrome typically doesn't fade, it pits. I don't know of any DIY fix for faded anodizing, just replacement. Mine's faded as well.

You should check out the outer window base of my 129,.. now that is some seriously pitted anodizing (the best of both worlds[:D])

The frames of the windows should be anodised, not chrome. Guessing that is what you might mean and that you actually want the dull grey/browm metal to shine even brighter than it is (which i'm guessing is stock) you probably wont be able to.

Perhaps if you could post a few pics it might help, as then we would know exactly what we are looking at.
