The chrome on my rear and front bumpers were dripped on from the roof of the parking garage. Whatever it was, it created drip marks that will not come out. It is almost a though the stuff were acidic and burned or etched the chrome. I've tried five different kinds of metal, silver and chrome polish to no avail. Any suggestions, short of rechroming?

If I am not mistaking rechroming is the only way. My grill has a section like this. There is nothing there to restore the chrome is just simply gone, worn off.

Hydrochloric acid ? [:)]

Should have elaborated huh?[:I]The stuff that I use to clean my knock-off wire wheels contains hydrochloric acid that eats off rust, stains, grease, road grime like you wouldn't believe. I used it on an old set of wire wheels once that no metal cleaner could clean, even by scrubbing.
Soaked them in the wire wheel cleaner, waited a few minutes and hosed off.Result was outstanding [8D]

A diluted solution of 5% brick cleaner (muriatic acid) will do the same and may be much cheaper. You can also get Hydrochloric acid (muriatic) at any pool supply store.
