The paint on my mirrors on my '93 500SEL is faded so I want to replace them with the chrome covers from Performance Products. I need to know if the covers only cover the part facing the front or if they cover the whole mirror top and bottom.

Let me know

I put some on my 92 many years ago to cover some scratches, they snapped on and created a new set of scratches, never really fit well so I used double sided scotch tape, they finally pitted and rusted. Took the covers off slightly sanded them, got a big can of paint from Tower Paint and sprayed them carefully, look as good as new.
the 92 has a front ring middle ring and back cover, the later have a different cover.
If you cant handle, it your local dealer can spray them at their leisure, reasonable.
They covered the entire back much like the plastic cover to the first seam, I would not do it again.

There's also a clip on version of the wing mirror indicators that I've heard causes as much damage also...
