As some may know I've decided to get a little sports car for the weekends and have decided on the SLK32 AMG. I've got to choices narrowed down and will make a decision today within the hour. Both are about the same price and little ways away, to far to just go take a look.

Choice #1 - 1 owner, passed away with service hx. Wife selling. Damage to left rear fender, just needed paint and dent repaired. Grey on black with 42K.

Choice #2 - 2 owners at non MB dealership. No service records. Black on Black with 33K on it. Carfax clean.

Any opinions welcome. Will decide within hour so let me know what you think.

All things being equal, I'd choose black over just about any light color on an SLK. Just a personal choice, but I think the darker colors look almost like completely different cars. In a good way!

The lower miles for the same money would be a good thing, but no service records may be a red flag. If it weren't for that, I'd say definitely number 2.

Tough call, overall.

As you know, I'm new here and to MB, but, generally speaking, I think papa's got the right idea. If the dealer'll allow you to have the car put through a diagnostic inspection at an MB dealer, (presuming it passes to your satisfaction) I'd go for option two. Of course, the amount of damage (and quality of repairs) factors in, but, all things equal, I'd opt for the clean car (since Carfax didn't reveal any problems) over the damaged one. And to paraphrase the old axiom: always buy the seller before you buy the car.

in a 32 i wouldnt buy a damaged unit. i WOULD insist ona m/b inspection even if i had to pay for it. (which i did in mine). any dealer would certainly have it done to protect their rep. also if you can find out were the car came from the dealer may have some service records. with mine when i hit 40k i just serviced everything and now i know its all done!
having said all that black on black!!!!!!

U can take #2 to any local shop and have a pre-purchase test done to it, that would tell me if theres anything wrong with it, it doesnt have to be specific mb dealer.

zlaja230 you are correct. i will add though the m/b dealer is aware of certain issues with the slk that a ford dealer may not be. ie: top issues pse intercooler on the 32 lower a arm bushings maf ect. my cost for the m/b inspection was only 109$ so its worth having the dealer look at it

Thought I would give an update. After settling on a price with Choice 2 the previous day, the car dealer starting to haggle price higher by 2 grand. So I said no and walked away. Choice number one able to talk to seller and damage was done by husband dented left door. 4 hours of work to get dent out and repaint. Supposed to be a shade off but can't tell from pics. Clean car fax, and it was a 1 owner with purchase in Naples FL and serviced often. So Choice number 1 it is. Still trying to get price down a little. Will let everyone know how it goes.

Settled on Price so the 2002 Grey on Black/Grey is mine pending funding. Yeah me!
