I now have an A/C manifold but I don't know how to hook it up!

I can screw the hose onto the Schrader valve but it seems there is nothing in the hose that presses on the valve to open it. I went to Ace Hardware and Autozone and couldn't find anything to connect the two.

Does anyone know what adapter I am missing?

Thanks! Andy

I would clean up around that port. You don't want containment getting in the system
or a bit of dirt on the Schrader Valve seal.

I've installed R134 connections on both my SL's.

Doesn't the rectangular metal on you hose depress the Schrader Valve?
Is your manifold gauge set for R12 usage?

The manifold gauge set I use has knobs on the end that press down on the Schrader
Valve. Are your gauges for residential AC useage???

Looks like you high side fitting is for use with old GM R12 ports. Just for a test will the low side hose screw on to that port. If yes just get a new high side hose. with the correct fitting. I believe its called a 1/4" SAE fitting.

But you say you can screw it on. It doesn't look like it can be screwed on in that picture. In any case try the low side hose if that works replace the high side hose. Just dont run the car with the low side hose on the high side port.

Thanks for the replies. The ebay listing said auto but the packaging says residential. I will return it and look for another one elsewhere.

The port is threaded - just can't see it in the picture I took. :)

Andya, I am not any kind of expert, but my AC guy showed me a compressor from 81 Camaro next to mine and they are identical, because MB bought them from gm. Not sure how many years this is true for but he also said the fittings are the same also. That is true for my 81 380sl but again not sure how many years this is true for. Take care

All of the A/C manifolds that I can find online that mention R12 look exactly like the one I have and I can't see the ends of the hoses. Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific one that they own?

Thanks! Andy

I purchased two R12 to R134a adapters. The high side one screws on but the low side one does not. On inspection it appears the depression pin on the low side one is too long and even with the Schrader valve fully depressed the nut on the adapter cannot reach the threads.

Any ideas what is going on here? Do I need specific adapters from a specific manufacturer?

Thanks, Andy
