HI all I am a newbie here...But by no means a newbie to MB's [:D]

I recently purchased a 1997 E320. I would like to check the transmission fluid level. If I were to purchase the dipstic is there anything else I need to have to check the fluid? If I remeber correctly the filer neck has a cap on it. Do I need a special tool to remove it?

Thanks for your help!

You might need a flathead screw driver to break off the little red tab (you're suppose to break this). You can buy a replacement seal but I don't bother with that. Keep in mind the dipstick you buy is extra long. So you stick it in untill it bottoms out.

Brandini:

Keep in mind that the transmission "dipstick" for you transmission is not a traditional dipstick. It is a gauge and is to be removed after the level is measured--you shouldn't drive around with it stuck in the transmission. I would suggest you get a replacement dipstick tube cap to keep any extraneous trash from getting into your transmission.
