I was watching this video on dash removal and at 10:46 he finds a note that says Accuform #712. I went to the accuform website and there it is, a solution to cracked dashes. I was planning on getting a whole new dash but this may be the way to go for long term since these dashes will crack no matter what one day... Has anyone here tried these out?

I looked into these for my friend's r107. As @nobby says, in most reviews/opinions people seem to be happy. I also have a friend that put one in his Infiniti. He's happy, and I had a hard time finding it.

I'll have to get one of these myself when the time comes. Got a small fissure beginning at the corner of my driver's side speaker.

don't do it i've seen some first hand and quality is OK, nothing like an original one, get a used gen II one when you can, cheaper too, I guess looks ok from about 5-feet and if you don't care about fit and finish

My dash cap on The PIG is more crack than not. LOL. Trans Labrador Highway saw to that.

Alas.....I will leave it be and call it patina.

The problem with the dash caps is they have to be glued or they warp like a fucking Pringle after a few months.
I don’t want to glue mine. It’s too destructive, too permanent, & I refuse.

After it warped I settled for a velour dash mat. It blows like a sail when I lower the top down on the interstate.
When it finally blows away I will probably sigh in relief.

One day I will save up my penny’s for “just dashes” to fix mine.

Has anyone tried Fibernew? They're nation wide. Back in the '80s I used to specialize in one make of cars that semed to be at the top of the list for radio thefts. Each time the thief would damage the dash pad above the radio with the pry bar. We'd exchange the damaged pad for one we'd previously repaired, get the damaged one repaired, and put it back on the shelf for tomorrow. If you didn't know they'd been repaired you'd never notice it. The insurance adjusters couldn't even tell...

I’ve heard good things about fibre new but I don’t know the long term results. Maybe I will give it a shot this summer on the 450sl. Looks like they have an office locally. Can’t hurt right?

It's sort of like welding. The patch is fused to the original material. I would expect it to be pretty long lived. The thieves got one of our cars, and it looked as good as new on the day we traded the car in.

Right!

[Disclaimer] I have no connections to anyone related to Fibernew.

I put one in my "73SLC" and it looked great. I found that you need to go really slow trimming for the best fit. I didn't even glue it down, just used the Velcro that came with it. It really is worth a try. Good luck.

I removed the Accuform and replaced it with a Coverlay last summer. I find the Coverlay to be more in line with the original dash from a texture standpoint. My dash had one small crack but the overall look was worn down in places. I was able to cut the climate control sensor hole so it really does look like an original dash. No glue since the fit was perfect.85 380sl

Do you have a picture of the 2 variations in texture by chance?

based on my research the coverlay has a better texture but it is thinner and possibly more prone to warpage. I think accuform is thicker but worse texture.
These photos are of the coverlay before it warped. Texture and fit was excellent

That would be the best option , the dash will look orignal as compared to a overlay.
It depends on the model. I’ve seen it done on the 107 and 123 and it never wraps correctly around the round air vents. You just can’t get the leather to stretch right with the stitching. On the 126 it may very well be a better option as you have the round vents.
