Knowing these magazines, MB-AMG will probably be the least favored because of the auto tranny.
G
I read it today and they favors all three BMW M models over........................................
the Mercedes AMG models. Specially fun to drive with the manual transmision, breaking, handling and prices (the E55 is a couple thousand dollars more then the M5, the ML 55 is a couple thousand dolars more then the X5 4.6, the Clk 55 is about $25,000 over then the M3 Cabrio and the Slk 32 is about $10,000 more then th Z3 M).

BMWs are bang for the bucks. Cheap sport cars.

Try comparing MB to Jaguars and other automatic cars.
G
You are right. Why compare a car when you know that the end outcome will be the price factor and ...

you already know the price? Just doesn't seem like a apples to apples comparison.
G
Read the magazine would you? It not just prices that BMW beat Mercedes in that catagory.............
the m5 beat the E55 , M3 Cabrio Beat the Clk 55 Cabrio and the X5 4.6i beat the Ml 55 in 0-60, 1/4, handling, braking and fun to drive because it offer a manual. Except for th Slk 32 beat the Z3 M 0-60, 1/4 ( by one tenths second) but lost in handling and fun to drive. So is not just MONEY. Why they compared an automatic with the manual? The question should be,' Why did Mercedes offer a real manual to compete'.? And BTW, the Slk 32 had an automatic tranny and it beat the Z3 M with manual tranny 0-60 and 1/4 test. So don't use the 'excuse' because Mercedes had an automatic transmision.

Why do we always have to get into a pissing contest everytime someone compare a BMW to a Mercedes. I believe Mercedes chose not to put a manual in their car because of the type of drivers it will attact. So to all of you who don't like Mercedes because they don't have a manual or their not fast enough so you can drive around just looking for someone to race, then you're exactly the type of drivers Mercedes wants to exclude anyway. When you buy a Mercedes, trying to kick someone ass on the freeway or finding way to launch you car from 0-60 in 4 seconds should be the least of your concern. Mercedes are powerful enough for everyday practical manuevers like quick lane change or merging into traffic but they weren't design to be driven around town trying to race every Tom, Dick, and Harry. There are other cars better suited for that purpose.

Quit being so narrow minded people

They way I see it is that BMWs and Mercedes are equally great cars that attract a different crowd or have a different mission. I wouldn't call a BMW a 'cheap sports car.' They are very well made cars that are a blast to drive. Why do you think the 3 series has been on the 10 best list for over 10 years I think??? Why do they always win comparos? They have world class engines, trannies and suspensions. Everywhere I read about the M5, they have trouble finding flaws. The last (E36) M3 was hailed the best handling car in the world over 6 figure offerings. Anyone looked at the lastest M3 engine? Individual throttle bodies per cylinder, forged everything, 100HP per liter, spins over 8000rpm. And now they have a sequential 6 speed with paddles like the Ferrari 360. So just do not call them cheap. Take a look at their latest Valvetronic..no throttle bodies. 4.4 liters with 325 some hp. Benz can't do that with 5 liters and they barely top that with a hot-rodded 5.5. So BMWs are made to be a SPORTS CAR. A Benz on the other hand is a stealthy smooth car with tons electronic gadgets. Kevin is right, racing people is the least of most Benz owner's concerns. Don't get me wrong, I love my Mercedes, I use it for what it was made for, but if I was in the market for a sports car you could drive everyday I wouldn't look any further than a BMW. I am a German car fan.

Linh I did read the magazine article and I quote from page 47.......

'our wallet became the tiebreaker, giving the nod among this pairing to the BMW M3 convertible.' So the tiebreaker wasn't any transmission it was price!!So I guess I did read the article.

M3 Vs CLK 430

I have a 02 430 Cab and I love it, I have to disagree that only the M3 is a drivers car because I love to drive my car. My car is smooth at low speeds and high speeds. Don't get me wrong, like the M3 but the main reason I bought the benz is because I think it is a better class of vehicle and all the 3 series Bimmers look the same. There is an obvious difference between the Mercedes models. By the way, its Porsche 911 with an Aero kit.

I don't even think those cars are yours, you blocked out the plates on the M3 and the Porsche but not the CLK...
G
Look harder Dan

I am not ap, but if you will notice, he does have the plates blocked on the CLK in some pictures and the ones that he doesn't, it is a temporary tag! Like the one you get on your car right after you buy it!
