175,000 miles and still a virgin... you won't see something alike in Europe under less than outrageous prices (over 5-6k euros)... congrats!

Other than the Euro lights I would not touch a thing on it. That looks like a really nice original car that hasn't been neglected or messed with. I would also check for vacuum leaks and modulator adjustment before thinking about swapping transmissions.

Very clear pictures.. Here's a question though about the engine picture: what are those two red tubes or cables coming out from the manifold and valve cover? What do they do?
Also, do you have a pre-cat coming off the manifoild?

I ask these questions because my '89 190e 2.6 doesn't have those red tubes or cables, but it does have a pre-catalytic converter.

Nice looking car.

I'm going to guess that those red tubes are connected to the EGR valve, which is attached to the exhaust manifold. (my 89 doesn't have the EGR either)

looks like egr, it could be feeding the cat and getting some air from the air pump; I have a set up like that in the rx7

I have seen lots of W201's in Europe.... and some nice examples can be bought for 3000 euro's. I guess it may depend on where in Europe you're reffering to.

Was it of a rich old man? :D:D:D

Nice W201, your 4-Gtronic transmission might actually only need servicing for its modulator valve, or even just a new vacuum hose. Including new fluid , filter and diagnostics at an Indy MBZ shop , around $200 to $300 plus?

Congrats on your ride - knowing you're in the Inland Empire (or Walnut/Pomona) finding parts will be no problem at all:). Tranny fix can indeed be very simple and low cost. I'd leave it as original as possible. Euros yes, and may be some interior upgrades that make it look a bit more luxurious.
