Guys , my wife C240 ( 2002) check engine light is on but there is NO MALFUNCTION , without any reason given and the car still performed so well ,only recently has developing few hesitation on idle for around 5 second at some stop lites then back to normal RPM as it should be . I had replaced new CSP for approx 2500 miles on it due to engine was very rough idle and quit off & on .
Any experiences input would be gracefully appreciated.

"No malfunction" has absolutely NO relationship to the CEL or OBD codes.

The best thing to do is to check codes, as that will point you towards a solution. Otherwise you just guess, which gets expensive and frustrating very quickly.

Some auto parts stores will check them for free, or you can buy a basic code reader from Amazon for under $25.

Codes are posted on the forum in several places. If the fix isn't obvious, then post your codes.

The worst thing you can do is ignore it; you could be doing damage to some expensive components, like cats.

Good luck.

Sometimes an error occurs that is transient or intermittent. If the error does not recur after a few (3-5) engine start/stop cycles, the MIL will be extinguished, but the error code will be retained in memory. Sometimes this can be a misfire code due to bad gas or trash in the intake. It could be a loose gas cap, or it could be an important part that is failing intermittently. I'd still pull the code to see what it was.

To piggyback on a cel thread, my cel comes on as the gas tank approaches half full and stays on until I fill the tank. Is this a gas cap issue?

It's very possible. What's the code? (FYI, Auto Zone will check them for you for free).

Thanks Rudeney. Finally had time to go to auto zone. Code is P0025 something like cam shaft sensor magnet. Found another post from someone else with a p0025 that goes away when the gas tank is filled. I sure cant see why a cam shaft sensor would care about gas tank level. Will take it into my mechanic at Alexanders in Minneapolis and report back.

(we're down sizing to a Condo so the kids and grand kids came for one last visit came for one last 2 week visit. They leave tomorrow and we move 2 days later)

Yep, listen to Shumicat - P0025 = DTC 0064 which is a symptom of the bad camshaft magnets. 2007 C280 is a likely "candidate" for that problem. Luckily, replacing the cam sensor magnets is fairly inexpensive for parts and an easy job.
