I'm about to change my idler shock and I was curious if I would need to replace the idler and the idler wheel as well. This curiosity was prompted as a result of reading "Do not use w/ old belt tightener # 111 200 12 70" as a note attached to the 1997 c230 class at ebay motors... Any info?

Its good preventative maintenance to replace the belt tensioner, pulley, and shock since its a common failure point. After a period of time the tensioner becomes stiff which is not what you want. From what I read there is an updated tensioning unit. Personally, I would stick to buying your parts from one of the online auto places vs. ebay and stick with original parts. B
