I tried to search for this topic, but couldn't find a straight forward answer. Is it as straight forward as it sounds, unplug the old one and plug in the new one? Is there any special steps I need to take? Is it a messy job? I'm worried that there will be fuel everywhere.

It's as easy as it seems. I used a vice grip on one of the fuel lines and it just dripped a little. Other than that, make sure to pick up some hose clamps
