Okay, since no one has responded to a earlier post of changing the oil yourself in the SLK350. Here are some tidbits to chew on.

First, the OEM oil filter by Mercedes Benz, Part Number 000-180-26-09 cost is $20.35 (cha-ching!), then you really "need" the oil filter removal tool, pictured as that silver thingy, part number 103-589-02-09-00 cost is $40.00 (bigger cha-ching!), then there are the obligatory center ring gasket and seal rings for $1.86 combined (that's better, but should be incidental to the filter). Total cost = $62.22. Then add the 8.5 US quarts of 0W-40 Mobil 1, from Advance Auto @ $4.97/qt, actually buying 9 quarts totals $44.73, grand total (less taxes) = $106.94.

Of course, you only buy the filter removal tool once yielding an actual cost of $66.94, doing it yourself. They sold me this filter removal tool on the premise that the housing of the fleece filter is plastic and could crack easily, set the hook and reel me in baby!

Here are the pictures of the parts:

Roadsterboy, I thought someone else posted that all you need to remove the oil filter is a 12mm allen wrench...are you finding that is not correct?

I think the 12mm allen wrench works for the SLK55. You need the Mercedes tool pictured in this thread for the SLK350. It was only $20 when I bought it for my SLK230 five years ago.

FYI -- Yes, here is a photo of the SLK55's oil filter with cap attached and the 12 mm Allen wrench that I've mentioned (cut an inch or so off an Allen wrench and use it in a socket, torque to 25 nt-m.)

Also shown is a new fleece filter and a used one still attached to the cap assembly. There's more info on this in the recent thread "Which Oil Filter" if you are interested, but I thought you might find it helpful to compare the 350s filter assembly with the 55's.
