Try twisting the wires sideways to break the seal and then pull them up.

The rotor arm does just pull up and push back on.

What seal do you mean? What you say involves breaking the old cables? Perhaps what you mean is that the connections are stuck with age and that turning the connections in the cap can unstick them, am I right?
