Any drill will work fine as long as the cutting bit is sharp.
Remember the diameter of the rivet shaft is much smaller than the head of the rivet as you're looking at it.
A 1/8" drill is probably a good starting size.
The rivet is aluminum and a soft material to drill through.
Good luck!!

They're probably too much speaker for the Audio 20 that we have in our B(you have the 20 also which is an Alpine unit).
Really, mine's a 20? If that's a 20 then what's a 5?

Mines an Audio 20 in a UK B 200CDI (as was my last one) & these are to SE specification

The UK Brochure only seems to mention the Audio 20 as the basic radio/cd setup.

Looks like we may have the same starting point in the UK as you guys in Canada.

PS I can't find the output wattage stated anywhere either DEVOURS

So i picked up a pair of 5.25" Focal 130 CVX's and had them installed. (I'm lazy I know) Wow what a difference over the crappy base speakers!!! It's a much cleaner sound and a much more rounded.(More bass) I'm going to look at replacing the front component speakers too, maybe in the summer. This is a must do mod, IMO. Here's a pic. Thanks for everyone's help in this thread.

We have new people in the forum and they will probably consider this mod thanks to the great pics and descriptions.

The weather here was pretty bad for a long period... now i think its a good time of starting this mod!!! :D

HELLO!...

Finally i made it!!... On the past Saturday i replaced these back 'super' speakers...

I put a cheap set of Sony Xplod XS-F1735 6,5'' speakers which playing about 60% better!!.. Now i have much more clear sound on the back seats. In combination with my subwoofer i have to say that i am very pleased with my sound.. Here are some pics also..

I had no difficulty with the wooden rising ring (hand made) but i had some casualties from the door panel clips. I broke 3 of them but i couldn't wait until monday so i put them back without them... fitting is very good and without them(!) Also i had the opportunity to replace the safety knobs with silver ones bought from ebay and they are pretty!!

Cheers to all :D

Correct me if I'm wrong as well, but in the past, M-B cars almost exclusively came with Becker radios. Then, Alpine units. Is that still the case?
Correct. Audio 5 is Becker, the other ones are Alpine if I'm correct.
But that has nothing to do with the speakers....

My previous car had a real Becker (Mexico Pro) and that radio was far superior than the Audio5.... I guess that MB dictates the price they want to pay and let Becker decide what they put in to it...

Nice clear photos, George, Why did they change those knobs to black?? cost I suppose
hi Keith, thanks. hmm that was my first question to the dealer as i have seen one B200 with silver ones... and they told me that the silver ones exist only on B200 series... :( probably cost...

But now i am ok :) and they are much cheaper from ebay! ha ha

Are they screw on? I am interested in the silver ones too found on Ebay. They look nicer than black ones.
Yes they screw on BUT... VERY VERY difficult for the first time! Think that i have bought them before 4 or 5 months and i managed to put them on only after removing the door panels and see what is under them... I used so much force that i thought i could brake them...

You can use a towel or thick paper if you don't want to damage the original ones and unscrew them slowly... the new ones are fitting very easily then!
