The power window switch for my 1981 380SL has broken down. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to replace it without damaging the console. I have already purchased the new switches (came in a two pack).

Any help would be appreciated

On my 87 model I removed the ashtray, the 2 screws behind it, then the ashtray frame. You can then get to the two screws that hold down the centre console. Undo them and slide the console back but don't lift it. Carefully unplug the switches and pop the switches out of the timber. Wnen my drivers side power window switch stopped working, I was able to pop the switch apart, without losing the springs or ball bearings and clean the terminals inside with a cotton bud stick and some WD40. On any other brand of car it these items would be unrepairable and probably expensive to replace.

Good luck

Andrew
