Hi

Does anybody know where is located the relay for the air pump of the central locking system? I've tried to locate it inside the ECM box in the motor compartment but this compartment only have wires not relays and not ECM there, this is an A160 2003, I hope somebody can help me, thanks in advance.

Try the fuse/relay panel in the battery compartment, under the hatch in the right footwell. There should be a folded paper diagram listing the relay allocations.

Hello DrX, I have to mention that I have the haynes manual for this car, I've already tried to locate the relay in the battery compartment but no diagram there, haynes manual have a diagram and this indicate that this relay and 4 more should be located inside the ecm box in the engine compartment, but in my car this box is empty (except for a lot of cables) I have to mention this is a brazilian model so probably there must be a difference between this and the UK model.

Yes, there is another small group of relays under the glove compartment in my RHD version. I can’t recall if you can access them from the passenger footwell or under the plastic cover screwed onto the front of the firewall, above the engine.

I found a list of relays in the battery compartment but none of them are for central locking/vacuum pump.

Here's a copy of fuse chart, it's been a while (I sold my last W168 five years ago), but I think it's relay 6 and fuses 29 and 46? View attachment 2632200

Hello, you are right, its the relay K6 but i can't find it, now something interesting, yesterday I remove the battery to recharge it, and when I installed back when I connect it, all the locks went to the unlocked position, now I have the doubt, Is this a relay problem or is the air pump, the problem its intermitent as I found out yesterday, now I know its not the key because I have the same problem with the button on the central console....

What's not working in the central locking?

I found the above very helpful. I have an A160 2002 model and love the car. But the central locking does not work an neither any response on the key remote. Being a new owner and technically minded I investigated the fault myself and found fuse 29 faulty. I replaced the fuse and it did not blow. I found it had 12v at the control unit in the boot and also on closer inspection found the vacuum motor to be faulty. Probably causing a larger load on the circuitry causing it and the fuse to go. So I am fairly confident that if I replace the control unit and motor it should work. Then the next step is the key remote.

Help me out if I am wrong, but I feel I am on the right track

Hi folks. My A160 has just started to misbehave in a similar way. The boot has never locked with the central locking, however the doors always did. In the last couple of days however, only the driver's door (RHS in Australia) locks and unlocks and the remaining doors remain unlocked. When the remote button is pushed the car makes a humming noise for 20 seconds or so - which I now believe is the air pump.

Found it in the boot. It's not wet but might have been in the past. Evidence of getting very hot and some rust. It's clearly seen better days. Is there a part number, or better still a workshop manual that anyone can cite or refer me to?

Thanks in advance
Greg
