I'm about to tackle the last thing that makes my 300SE present like a hoopty. Replacement of the center bumper cover. Mine is rusted through in several places. The car looks great, until you look down from the hood ornament, to the bottom of the grille, and... there it is... RUST. This part is $445 at Performance, but I've got one coming from a yard in ATL for 40 bux. Anybody done this job? Looks stright forward, but all the plastic parts along the front of the bumper look like they may be hiding some secrets. Can't wait to get that cancer off my hoopty, er, uh... car!

You will have to disassymble your front bumper completely so as to access the removal of the chrome pieces. IMHO I would purchase a front bumper bolt kit from the dealership since you will more than likely be facing rusted bolts.

All you will need is a screw driver, boxed end wrench and a little bit of masking tape to hold a few bolts in place. You may need a set of needle nose pliers to lift the tabs on the joint covers.

Figure on a few hours to r&r and clean while your there.

Regards,

i did this once and it was a pita due to everything being rusted. even then getting it all back together it was still hard to get everything to line up just right and go back together like it should.

You might be better off just finding another bumper and swapping the whole thing. Last front bumper I pulled from a junkyard cost me $42.
