Hey guys, on my way home from work last night my check engine light came on. Got home and ran a scan. It came back with P0301 cylinder 1 misfire. Any ideas as to what could be the cause?

Could be a bad Spark plug or Spark plug Wire or the Coil,, first thing, just remove the coil & put it in any other cylinder then

see, if the code follows that cylinder, then you well find the problem,, then start to investigate about the wire, it could be bad

or loose,, also you can remove the plug & see how bad it is......:)

Frankly the W210 E55 coils and wires are generally good out past 200K miles - although sometimes rarely a individual coil can go on the blink - hence the good advise from the earlier reply.

Also a great time to check the general condition of the plugs - replacement Bosch OE equivalents are very affordable and a good afternoon DIY helped by a search for DIY photo's and instructions on this forum.

Intake issues (dirty air filter and dirty MAF) start off by triggering a misfire on a individual cylinder, then kind of spread by triggering sporadic misfires on other cylinders that same side.

That said - also a good time to consider putting in a new Mann air filter for like $16, and a good cleaning of the MAF with a can of $9 MAF cleaner.

Keep the beat !

Air filter + Mann, don't waste money on anything else since they don't seal as well.

Check DIY here or on regular W210 forum - standard Bosch replacement plugs DON'T waste money on any "upgrades". Bosch replacements cheapest aftermarket footballs between autohausaz.com and amazon

Plug change easiest done with swivel spark plug socket and immense help is the "Mercedes boot removal tool" check eBay it's a offset open ender used to pop the boots off

Suggest dielectric grease, dab on the spark plug connector before reseating the boot - a good tube is like $6

MAF cleaner like $9 a can, it's a great general non-residue clean up for other stuff down the road

If you're agressive, other EZ thing for maintainance is Bosch or Mann fuel filter, and a few standard hose clamps and the bottle of Stabil Marine formula for fuel system and injection cleanup

Keep the beat !
