I don't know how hard it is, but you can purchase the CD changer and install it yourself. You need to buy the changer and a mounting kit, but the cost will be well under $500 via mail order. At that price, you could pay the dealer $125 (typical dealer fee for installing the CD changer) and still be well under the $900 that your dealer quoted.
Check out http://www.autoclass.net for a good price.

I bought mine from clair.com

It was about $450 with the bracket. Theoretically, you could install it yourself, but even then you have to go to the dealer to have them synch up the player with the head unit. It has something to do with the fiber optics, but I am not pretending to understand what that may involve. I brought in the parts (all MB CD parts) to my local dealer and they installed it for $110. What you can also do, if you don't like 'mail order', is just go around your salesman on the pricing. Talk to your local dealer's parts dept. and get their price for the parts, then talk to service and find out what they would charge to install it.
Good luck - John

Try http://www.beckerautosound.com/ too fiber optic chagners...

You are wrong.

A dealer will MOST CERTAINLY install parts that are not installed at the dealership!!!
I bought my CD player mailorder from Clairs (like many others on this board), and called 4 or 5 dealers to get the best price. Every one of them was more than happy to install it, no matter where it was purchased from, as long as its the factory part. They warned me if its not the factory part, they would not install it. They also generally said that what I was buying was probably not the factory part, because the price I was getting (around $440 with bracket and cable) was supposedly cheaper than dealer cost.
The best installation price I got was $120, from a local dealer (MB of Laguna Niguel). Long Beach MB was around the same price, but the dealer closest to me (Fletcher Jones) wanted $300!
Anyways, took it to MBLN, they opened the box and said "yep, that's the factory stuff" and installed it for $120. No problems at all.
: : Can I purchase the CD changer for the new C-Class and install it myself? How hard it is to install the changer and where can it get it online. : Call Stephan at SW Stereo, 800-277-BEST. He is a Becker Guru. I paid 425.00 for a 6 disc cd chanker for a clk, including the mounting bracket. Fairly easy to install yourself.
