Hello everyone,
Recently i discovered a problem with the tape that keeps spitting out the cassette every time i place it in. Sometimes it would retract in and say error but wont eject. i would have to play with it until it decides to eject. Im in desperate need of a fix because i have my whole set up based upon the cassette to aux port on the iphone.
I tried it today with other cassette to aux that works in a 2001 s430 but wouldnt even be received in my system. When i tried an actual cassette it received it fine but then spits it out with tape error message. Any help will greatly appreciated.

My '99 E430 headunit is probably the similar model but I don't recall if there's a belt to drive the internal gears. I vaguely remember that there's a bunch of gears inside the compartment when I opened the headunit. The cassette player is auto-reverse. If one side is not sensed to spin, the player is in error. That means the belt if it exists is broken or some gears are out of sync. The best way to troubleshoot is to remove the headunit from the dash with wires intact using two 2 "mercedes radio keys" . Lift the top, insert a cassette tape to see how it's received, rejected.
"mercedes radio keys" can be bought from eeebbbbayyyy for about $3.
