I will be picking up my first MB 300D next week. I was wondering about carseat installation. My son will be in the middle, forward facing. I will install the seat with the lap seat belt. But I was wondering if anybody ever retrofitted something for the top tether of the carseat. I was looking at the flat section between the back seat and the glass and then checking out what the looks like from the trunk. Looks like it might be a pita to get something bolted in there. Has anybody done this?

Is your rear seat pretty stiff? Reason I ask is on my old W123 years back, I had to straddle the car seat, and literally press it down, then cinch the belt to make it tight.

It seams stiff to me. I have to do the same thing in an old ford pu we have. That seat is so cushy. I practically sit in it to get it strapped in good. I am just trying to figure out how to strap the top/back of the seat behind the back seat. But I can't see a good place to bolt in a loop to strap that part of the seat in.

But all the seats will be changing in the next couple of months. I am buying all new seats for the old girl.

The only thing that comes to mind is getting a piece of steel stock in a triangle shape, and bending it so that it slides under the rear deck and back like 6-8 inches (bolt it down + big washers), and then up and over the top of the rear seat section so that it doesn't rip the top of seat.

Forgive me, for I am a girl :). But what is underneath that decking? It is a black bulbous type thing you can see in the trunk looking up underneath that decking. I was trying to see where I could bolt , but that 'thing' is in the way. Do you know what I am talking about, or am I talking gibberish. My husband is a bull hauler and didn't get to look at that part of the car yet. And is that decking somewhat strong? It won't hurt it to bolt something to it?

I figured you might ask, so here's a quick rough sketch. The deck is the carpeted section where your rear speakers are, which IMO should be removed first to mount plate, then reinstalled afterwards to make it look clean.

I am just using the seat belts for both of my cars to hold the seats in. I did practically have to stand on the seat to fasten it in correctly.

i am considering having LATCH-type loops welded behind the rear seat. hopefully without puncturing or igniting the fuel tank. also, what is a bull hauler?
I would love to have latch. Sooo much easier than the seatbelt. I think I am just going to buy an extra carseat and this carseat will just stay in the Benz. So once it is in, it IS in.

Teehee. A bull hauler are those guys that drive semi trucks full of cows. They like to call themselves bull haulers instead of cow haulers though. Sounds more manly. They are kinda considered the top dogs of the trucking industry. They always have the souped up, tricked out trucks.
